A Future of Purpose, Skills and Dignity
Our youth are our greatest resource, and their energy, creativity, and talents should be channelled towards productive activities that improve their lives and strengthen our community.
I believe no young person should feel trapped in idleness, spending day after day at shopping centres without access to meaningful work, skills, or opportunities. We must also address the harm associated with excessive consumption of illicit and unregulated local alcohol, which can affect families, livelihoods, and community wellbeing.
My Priorities for Youth Empowerment
- Skills and Vocational Training: Advocate for accessible practical training that equips young people with employable skills.
- Employment and Entrepreneurship: Promote access to business training, mentorship, enterprise support, and available job opportunities.
- Productive Shopping Centres: Encourage partnerships that connect young people with apprenticeships, local businesses, agricultural activities, and other income-generating opportunities.
- Fight Illicit Alcohol: Work with relevant authorities and community leaders to enforce the law against illicit brews while supporting prevention, rehabilitation, and responsible alcohol awareness.
- Sports, Arts and Talent Development: Encourage youth participation in sports, cultural activities, and creative industries as constructive paths for personal growth.
- Youth Participation in Leadership: Give young people a meaningful voice in identifying challenges and shaping solutions for Githiga Ward.
Our Vision: A Productive and Responsible Generation
The goal is not to condemn our youth, but to create an environment where they can work, learn, build businesses, discover their talents, and contribute to society with dignity.
As an MCA, I would advocate for these initiatives through county planning, budgeting, oversight, and partnerships with relevant agencies, employers, and community organisations.

GITHIGA YOUTH ACTION PLAN
RAS KARANJA NYORO | Incoming MCA, Githiga Ward
From Idleness to Skills, Jobs and Enterprise
Our youth need more than promises. They need practical skills, access to opportunities, business support, and constructive activities that help them earn a living and build a future.
My proposed youth action plan focuses on practical steps, measurable progress, and partnerships that create opportunities across Githiga Ward.
1. Establish a Youth Skills and Opportunities Register
Work with youth representatives to identify young people seeking employment, vocational training, apprenticeships, or business opportunities. Use the information to connect them with relevant programmes while protecting their personal data.
2. Connect Youth to Training and Work
Partner with vocational training centres, local artisans, garages, construction businesses, farms, and other employers to promote apprenticeships, practical training, and work experience.
3. Support Youth-Owned Businesses
Advocate for business training, mentorship, cooperative enterprises, and access to information about available county tenders and youth enterprise funding. Help young entrepreneurs understand application requirements and avoid fraudulent schemes.
4. Turn Shopping Centres into Opportunity Hubs
Engage traders, business owners, community organisations, and youth groups to organise skills clinics, job-information sessions, business mentorship, and productive community activities.
5. Tackle Illicit Alcohol and Harmful Drinking
Work with licensed providers, public health officials, law enforcement, families, and community leaders to address illicit brews, enforce applicable laws, raise awareness, and connect people experiencing alcohol-related problems with appropriate support and rehabilitation services.
6. Invest in Sports, Arts and Talent
Advocate for community tournaments, creative arts activities, talent development, and youth-led initiatives that provide positive alternatives and strengthen community participation.
7. Give Youth a Voice
Hold regular youth forums across Githiga Ward to identify local challenges, discuss solutions, and report progress on agreed priorities.
How We Will Measure Progress
- Number of young people registered and connected to opportunities.
- Number referred to vocational training and apprenticeships.
- Number of youth enterprises receiving mentorship or business support.
- Number of community activities and youth forums conducted.
- Progress on partnerships addressing illicit alcohol and access to support services.
Targets and timelines should be agreed following a ward-level needs assessment and confirmation of available resources.
My Commitment
As MCA, I would use the county assembly’s legislative, budgeting, representation, and oversight roles to champion these priorities, work with relevant departments, and report progress transparently. Employment programmes and enforcement would require cooperation with the responsible agencies and partners.
